Stay Informed, Not Annoyed: Custom Notifications in Lely Horizon

How to Set Up App Notifications in Lely Horizon for Different Users

Lely Horizon helps dairy teams stay informed in real time, from robot alerts to reproduction events and feeding milestones. But with multiple users on a farm, not everyone needs every notification. Properly setting up user specific notifications keeps the right people informed without overwhelming everyone else’s phones.

Here’s a step-by-step guide to customizing notifications in Horizon for each user on your farm team.

1️⃣ Check That Each Team Member Has Their Own Account

Before customizing notifications, make sure each person uses their own Horizon login (not a shared one).

  • Each user should have their own username and password linked to your farm’s Horizon environment.

  • Logins are managed under Manage → People → Users. Click Add User to create new accounts.

  • Here, you can also select the preferred language without affecting your account, and assign the right permission level (e.g., Admin, Farm Manager, Milker, Vet, Nutritionist). Go to the Role section to see how permissions differ for each role.

Tip: Giving everyone a personal login not only makes notifications accurate, it also ensures that notes and tasks are correctly attributed in Horizon’s activity history.

2️⃣ Open the Notification Settings

Each user can manage their own alerts by going to Manage → People → Notifications:

  1. From the Notifications page, click the + sign.

  2. Then click

    ree

  3. You’ll see a list of alarm type such as:

    1. Dead Milk Time

    2. Distress Alert

    3. Heat Attention

    4. Astronaut

    5. Acute inactive (eating/rumination)

    6. Juno/Collector

3️⃣Choose When to Receive Each Alarm

For each alarm type, you can create a schedule for when to receive notifications.

4️⃣Astronaut Notifications

At this time, you can’t select which specific robot alarms to get notified for. The only place to manage this is under your Modalarm in each device’s alarm settings. There, only non-critical alarms can be turned on or off for daytime/nighttime.

Daytime/Nighttime follows the times set in your Modalarm under the Phonebook tab, not the times set in Horizon Notifications.

5️⃣Test and Fine-Tune

Once everyone has chosen their preferences:

  • Test over a few days to see if notifications are as expected.

  • Adjust settings after a week, some may find they want fewer or more alerts once they see what’s useful.
